Elizabeth Van Gorkom Genealogical Research Center
The Elizabeth Van Gorkom Genealogical Research Center is the Burnet County repository for local and family history. Explore our resources in a spacious, well-lit work area. Bring your own device and use the library’s WiFi for your research needs, or use our dedicated research computer.
In Person Usage Requirements
Access to the Research Center is available during library business hours: Monday—Friday, 10:00 AM—4:45 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM - 2:45 PM.
Persons under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.
All researchers, both Burnet County Library System account holders and visitors, are required to sign-in at the Circulation Desk and leave their ID.
Food and drink are not allowed in the Research Center.
Researchers are welcome to make copies from books and of documents. Please ask for staff assistance before copying delicate and antique volumes . Loose-leaf copies of the Burnet County History books are available for easy photocopying.
Access to the Local History and Surname Files are available upon request.
Access to Oral History Transcriptions and Microfilm Documents are available upon request; one Transcription or Microfilm roll at a time.
Use of the microfilm machine requires registering with the library and a brief training session. Please call ahead to schedule an appointment.
Materials may not leave the research center.
Printouts must be paid for at the front desk at sign out.
